The timeline of events from the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, has changed dramatically from the initial statements made by authorities there. The gunman, Salvador Ramos, 18, killed 19 students and two teachers in the attack, which unfolded over about 90 minutes Tuesday at Robb Elementary School

This timeline is based on a press conference Friday by the Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety Steven McCraw.

Based on video evidence, an exterior door that the gunman would use to enter the school was propped open by a teacher.

11:28 a.m.

The suspect’s vehicle crashes into a ditch near the school.

A teacher runs to room 123 to retrieve a phone and the same teacher returns to the same exit door, which remains open.

Two males from a funeral home across the street heard the crash and went to the scene. There they saw a man with a gun exit the passenger side with a backpack. Ramos shot at them but didn’t hit them. Both males returned to the funeral home.

The teacher re-enters the school and calls 911, citing a crash and a man with a gun.

The suspect reaches the last row of vehicles in the school parking lot. The suspect begins shooting at the school as patrol vehicles arrive at the funeral home. The suspect is hiding behind a vehicle.

A school resource officer who was off-site and heard the initial 911 call drove to the area. The officer arrived soon after hearing about the incident but mistakenly thought a different person was the gunman and bypassed Ramos, who was then in the school parking lot, intermittently shooting.
